Thanks to Qing, my family and the musicians.

Some of this music was composed for instruments
designed before 1975.
Some of this music is corny fusion music.

This CD was self-funded, including funds
generated from the sales of previous CDs recorded
and paid for by myself.

Back in 2001 I used to work in a mental institution in Queens New York as a music therapist. I worked with mostly black and hispanic teenagers who where dual diagnosis ( low IQ and mentally ill in some way also ). A good deal of them seemed to be only interested in Hip Hop and eating fried chicken. As an Australian growing up on a diet of Michael Jackson and the Cosby show it was quite a shock. The system was poorly funded and a lot of people working there got not much more than the minimum wage if my memory serves me correctly. It was very sad to see where the descendants of slaves had ended up. I couldn't help but think of all the great African music and America's proud musical history going down the toilet into a drum machine. The kids where fed food I found pretty hard to eat. They drank a lot of coke and were heading for diabetes and ill health. I couldn't help but think of images of proud african warriors without any body fat in national geographic. The bitter irony ended up becoming a suite of songs with the lyrics " fried-chicken - drum machine ". In another piece of irony an African American saxophonist who performed the music with me was greatly offended deciding that I was reinforcing racial stereotypes with the lyrics. Because of him, not wishing to offend ANYONE a lot of the lyrics got rerecorded with the Australianised "Surf Music, Chiko Roll". It took a long time to finish. Some of Mark Guiliana's drumming on this thing is some of my favorite drumming of all time.
